Central Mass Championships
NEIL SIMPSON, BRIAN STAS & BILL BISHOP ARE TOP THREE
AUGUST 2, 2020 – EAST BROOKFIELD, MA – Six contestants were on hand for this year’s running of the Central Mass Championships. The location was the “Podunk Airfield” in East Brookfield, Massachusetts. The weather was hot with a moderate breeze and cloud cover to give some relief.
Round one saw Matt Stas post a 725 point win to take the early lead. He was followed by Brian Stas, Bill Bishop and Neil Simpson who all posted good scores to stay within striking distance.. In round two Brian and Matt mid-aired early hurting both their cumulative scores while both Neil and Bill posted airtime wins to place them in a tie atop the leader board. In round three Neil and Matt faced off with Neil getting two cuts early and Matt then taking all of Neil’s streamer giving Neil a two cuts to one win. In the next match Brian got an airtime win over Bill leaving Matt, Brian and Bill in a three way battle for second place all five hundred plus points behind Neil. In the first match of the final round Chris Sarnowski, after a slow start. scored his second good win a row this one over Cody Bishop. In the next match Bill Bishop and Matt Stas each got a cut but a line tangle crash cost Matt airtime and the match win. In the final Neil and Brian faced off. Neil took all of Brian’s streamer early and then had to run like a rabbit with Brian catching him twice for a two cut to one win. When the scores were tabulated Neil was first, Brian second and Bill third.
Later, everyone ate, drank and enjoyed each other’s company at the post contest cookout at Neil and Beth’s house (same location as the airfield). The food was prepared and the festivities were hosted by the lovely Beth Brennan. About thirty minutes into the cookout the scheduled thunderstorm came and while some went home a little wet no one went home hungry.
