2017 Fall Fly-Off

BRIAN STAS, NEIL SIMPSON AND JOE FUSTOLO
TAKE TOP THREE SPOTS

OCTOBER 29, 2017 – HALIFAX, MA – The Wingbuster Club Field in Halifax, Massachusetts was the location once again for the Fall Fly-Off which is the traditional final contest of the New England control line combat season. The weather was seasonably warm and cloudy with a light breeze. This year’s event attracted six pilots.

Round one saw Brian Stas off to the best start posting an 625 point win however the field was in close pursuit as four additional pilots posted scores north of 500 points. In round two Brian maintained the contest lead flying Neil Simpson to a one cut apiece draw. Meanwhile Paul Kubek earned a one cut win over Joe Fustolo leaving him just five cumulative points behind Brian at the halfway point. Round two also saw Chris Sarnowski and Rick Clark mid-air which pushed them well off the pace set by the rest of the field. In round three Brian got a two cut win over Paul in a well flown match. Also in round three Neil got an airtime win over Chris while Joe was earning a one cut win over Rick. Going into the final round Brian had a significant lead while Neil, Joe and Paul seemed to be relegated to a three way battle for second. In the semi final Neil got a 620 point win over Paul in a action filled match. In the final Joe battled Brian in a match whose outcome was in doubt to the very end. It was exciting and well fought but ended up in a low scoring draw. Brian still had enough for the contest win, Neil would finish second and Joe had just enough to get past Paul for third.

Thank you to the entire Wingbuster Model Airplane Club for the use of their fine facility and for the courtesies extended to us all season long.
