107Th RC Flyers GX Shootout

NEIL SIMPSON, BILL BISHOP & CODY BISHOP ARE TOP THREE
SPORTSMAN TO BILL BISHOP

JUNE 22, 2019-SAUGUS, MA – The GX Shootout attracted five pilots for a day of Formula GX action. The weather was sunny and warm with temperatures in the mid seventy degree range. The breeze was strong and my early afternoon problematic.

Round one action saw Brian Stas post a 725 point win to take the early lead while Cody Bishop was the only other pilot with a round one win. Brian and Cody faced off in round two with Brian leading by a cut when a mid air occurred. Neil Simpson and Bill Bishop flew to a one cut apiece draw in the same round. At the halfway point Brian had a narrow lead followed by Bill, however all the cumulative scores were low in part due to a pesky wind which was getting stronger as the day progressed. In round three Neil and Brian faced off with some good action early. Neil got an early cut benefitting from Brian’s engine run being slightly off. Brian eventually crashed when line tension was lost and the resulting impact damaged his ship. This match coupled with subsequent matches where Bill and Cody flew to a low scoring draw and Brian and Chris Sarnowski mid-aired gave Neil the contest lead. When the final scores were tabulated Neill had the contest win followed by Bill and Cody. Bill took home the “sportsman gold” by virtue of his second place finish.

Thank you to the 107th for allowing us to use their control line field.
