2021 Summer Sizzler

JEFF VADER, BRIAN STAS AND NEIL SIMPSON TAKE THE TOP THREE SPOTS

JULY 11, 2021 – KINGSTON, MA – Silver Lake Regional High School was the location for the 2021 Summer Sizzler. The weather was sunny, warm and humid with almost no breeze, a summer sizzler. The event attracted six pilots.

Round one was somewhat uneventful with Jeff Vader and Brian Stas posting 520 point airtime wins over Joe Fustolo and Rick Clark respectively. Round one also saw Neil Simpson and Matt Stas fly to a one cut apiece draw.

Round two got ugly. First Jeff and Brian mid-aired followed by a match where Joe and Neil had mid air contact which didn’t meet the criterion for a mid air but did disable both ships for the remainder of that match. If that wasn’t enough Matt and Rick suffered a fly-away in the next match. Round three didn’t start any better when Brian and Neil mid-aired in the first match of that round. Things settled down a little after that when Jeff and Matt flew to a draw in a well flown match and Rick got an airtime win over Joe in a match where each pilot scored a cut apiece. Going into round four the cumulative scores were very close, four pilots were within 200 points of Brian who was leading the pack. Neil and Joe would be the first match of round four with Neil just getting by Joe with a one cut win. Next, Jeff got a two cut win over Rick to post a final cumulative score that would prove hard to beat. Brian and Matt would face off in the final with Brian posting a one cut win which left him just 10 points short of matching Jeff’s final cumulative score.
