107th RC Flyers Spring Championship

BRIAN STAS, NEIL SIMPSON & JOE FUSTOLO
 ARE TOP THREE
BILL BISHOP TAKES SPORTSMAN

MAY 19, 2019-SAUGUS, MA – The 107th RC Flyers Spring Championship attracted six pilots for a day of Formula GX action. This was opening day for the New England 2019 season. The weather was partly cloudy, quite windy and warm enough except when we were interrupted by a cool mid-day rain that delayed activity for about an hour.

The winter rust and wind led to some fairly ugly matches as the day progressed. Brian Stas got off to the best start posting an 820 point win followed by Neil Simpson and Chris Sarnowski who posted round one wins of their own. Neil and Brian faced off in round two. The action was very exciting until Neil’s airplane lost its’ outboard wing perhaps due to some combination of prior damage and the windy conditions. In the next match Chris and Joe Fustolo mid-aired. This left Brian in a commanding lead at the halfway point. In round three Brian stayed hot posting a two cut win over Cody Bishop. This was followed by two matches where Neil and Joe posted one cut wins over Chris and Bill Bishop respectively. In the final round Bill got a win over Cody to come from behind to capture the Sportsman “gold”. In the semi-final Neil and Joe were matched up and a line tangle crash early destroyed both airplanes. The final saw Brian and Chris mid-air early to cap off a day filled with of ugly results. The clear contest winner was Brian followed by Neil and Joe.

Thank you to the 107th RC Flyers for allowing us to use their fine facility.
