MAY 16, 2021 – KINGSTON, MA – The Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston, Massachusetts was the location for the Spring Championships, opening day of the 2021 control line combat season in New England. The weather was sunny and warm although we were interrupted by a rain shower between the third and final round. The breeze was light. The grass at the Kingston facility was very green. Conditions were ideal for a good day of Formula GX action. Seven pilots were on hand to enjoy the day.

Slow starts in round one left Neil Simpson and Rick Clark leading with 520 points each while Brian Stas and Joe Fustolo, who had flown to a one cut apiece draw, were sitting at 510 points each. In round two Neil earned a one cut win over Rick while Joe turned in the same score in a match with Bill Bishop. Later in round two Jeff Vader and Brian mid-aired hurting both their cumulative scores. Round three started with a hard fought match between Joe and Neil with Neil surviving with a one cut win. Meanwhile Brian stayed in the hunt with an airtime win over Rick and Jeff emerged as a contender with a three cut win over Cody Bishop. The final round started with Rick and Bill flying to a one cut apiece draw. In the semi-final Joe and Jeff squared off. After several minutes of good action the match, however, ended in a mid-air. In the final Brian and Neil twisted and turned for about minute when that match ended in a thunderous mid-air. Some good flying on this day however four mid-airs were proof that there was some winter rust as well.
